Alder Cottage is in North Devon, very close to the Devon/Somerset border and five miles from the town of Dulverton. South Molton is ten miles away and Tiverton is fifteen miles away. The cottage is in Blackerton Village, a former care village for people with learning disabilities. Our postcode is EX16 9JT although please read on for full directions as sat nav is usually inaccurate.
From the A361, you need to look for signs for the B3227 Bampton/Dulverton if travelling from Barnstaple/South Molton. Conrinue on the B3227 for about 6 miles then the driveway will be on the left around 1 mile after the Jubilee Inn and Wild Woods Tapas Bar. You may miss the driveway & see the Blackerton Cross Garage on the right first, in which case you can turn around in the layby opposite.
From Tiverton/M5 direction, look for a sign to Knowstone on the right opposite signs to Rose Ash & Ash Mill on the left. Turn right, follow the road for about 5 miles and you’ll eventually see a caravan park on the left. At a T junction, turn left then the Blackerton Cross Garage is next on the left and our drive on the right. NB this road is single track for most of the journey. If you would prefer an easier drive, continue along the A361 until the B3227 turning for Bampton/Dulverton and follow directions above. The map below has directions to Blackerton House, which is the building next to Alder Cottage.
The picture below shows the top of the driveway. Please note that the postcode usually takes you to the Blackerton Cross garage which is on the B3227. The entrance to Blackerton is on the opposite side of the road, just past the garage (if you have the garage on your left) and down a driveway signposted Blackerton (sign not showing in picture below).
Alder Cottage is the second building on the right as you enter the village and parking for the main cottage is beside the cottage – follow the blue sign shown below. Parking for the Garden Flat is at the rear of the cottage, continue past Alder Cottage (shown below, right) and drive along to the back of the building, park in any available space. Please do not park in any other parking spaces, those on the left marked ‘visitor’ are for the use of other residents.
